BELLEVUE - Is it time for Brown County sheriff's deputies get new uniforms? 

Some think it's an idea worth exploring. 

Tim Thomas, a candidate for sheriff and the department's Brown County Circuit Court traffic sergeant, introduced the possibility of new uniforms during an interview with USA TODAY NETWORK-WISCONSIN in August.

Thomas, who is a board member of the deputies union, said the idea would be to switch from polyester uniforms to a safer, less flammable material like cotton, or a cotton blend. He said the issue has been raised by some and is one that would most benefit those out responding to calls for things like car fires, where deputies are typically first to arrive.

Thomas acknowledges that it is a minor issue in the campaign. He is running as a Democrat against Chief Deputy Todd Delain, a Republican. Sheriff John Gossage is not seeking re-election. Full Article
