WASHINGTON — The U.S. House of Representative on Tuesday passed a bill that would direct Bureau of Prisons facilities to provide a storage area for personal firearms of corrections officers.

The bill, H.R. 613, was first introduced to the congress by Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va. and is intended to help allow correctional officers to keep themselves safe.

If passed, the bill would create the Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati Correctional Officer Self-Protection Act. The namesake of the bill was killed on his way home from work in retaliation for an investigation he participated in. Full Article
