Out of an abundance of caution and following the guidelines issued by the federal government, NAUMD board of directors voted unanimously to cancel the association's 2020 Convention in Reston, Virginia.

It is the first time the gathering has been canceled since the association's inception, and the first time since 1972 (the year the exhibits were added to the convention format) that manufacturers will be unable to showcase their products to an industry-wide audience.

Also canceled for 2020: all NAUMD awards programs, including Best Dressed Public Safety, Image of the Year, Innovation Awards, Lifetime Achievement and Rising Stars.

It's not what anyone wanted, but members are are most valued asset; their health and safety paramount. We feel that by acting now, we have a chance to stop the spread of Covid 19 and prevent more people from being infected.

During this time of mandatory shutdowns and social distancing, it is our hope that lessons learned during this crisis will help us better weather the next one. It could also lead to unexpected silver linings. We're all in this together, and perhaps that notion will help us mend our fraying social fabric, bring us closer together, and produce richer, more meaningful lives, in good times as well as bad.

Please check the website and watch future issues of the Pulse for updates regarding registration fees, exhibit refunds, and plans for the 2021 convention. As always, you can contact Steve Zalkin, [email protected], with any questions or concerns.

Stay well and be safe!
