Image of the Year; Best Dressed Public Safety Winners

At the NAUMD convention last month, the association named 11 winners of its annual Image of the Year Competition and awarded four departments with Best Dressed Public Safety nods.  In addition, NAUMD for the first time recognized three manufacturers with excellence in uniform construction and innovation. 

Cintas was the big winner of the Image contest, earning five awards, including a “Best of the Best” for its work on the St. Regis Monarch.  Affinity Apparel took home two, while Superior Uniform Group, HPI Direct, Twin Hill and Universal Orlando each walked away with one award.

 Three dealers and one manufacturer earned top honors in the Best Dressed Public Safety Competition.  They are:  Nye Uniforms, Red the Uniform Tailor, Keeprs, and Fechheimer.  5.11 Tactical and VF Imagewear received recognition for their contributions to program design and product innovation.

New Board Members 

 We are pleased to announce the election of these new members to the NAUMD Board of Directors.  Each Board Member is elected for a 3 year term and may hold the position for a maximum of 2 consecutive terms.  The new members participated in their first board meeting on Wednesday at the end of the convention.  Our new Board Members are:

Steve Robinson, Liberty Uniform Mfg. Co., rotated off the Board and Executive Committee after 14 years of service.  The association thanks Steve for his investment of time, talent, and money into our industry community.  Steve played an important role in the transition to a new President over the past few months.

NAUMD to Increase the Use of Task Forces 

To continue the positive momentum which began at this year’s convention, task forces will be used to make improvements to the association in several areas.   Over 40 association members have volunteered to work on a task force.  These task forces will be formed and begin their missions over the next 4 to 8 weeks.  Task forces will work on several areas identified during the convention: 

1.      Improving the Best Dressed and Image of the Year award programs 

2.      Developing industry surveys and research projects 

3.      Creating online education programs

4.      Negotiating national contracts for the membership

The task force model within associations has proven to be more effective in producing results and more enjoyable for the members.  When compared to a committee, the task force is different in these respects:

1)      Fewer members -  typically 3 to 5 – are able to operate more efficiently 

2)      Given a more narrowly defined mission with a definition of success

3)      Once the mission is completed, the task force dissolves – usually lasts no more than a few months.

New Website Launch by the end of June 

Within the next few weeks, you will receive an email announcement that the NAUMD has launched its new website.  The association has been working for the past few months with a company, Memberclicks, that specializes in websites for smaller associations.  You will still go to the same URL – naumd.com but will find a new site.

The first interaction most of you will have with the site is to receive your membership dues invoice via email with links back to the site.  The email will allow you to pay dues on line and will ask you to update your company information in the master database.  Dues payment can be made on line by credit card or you can choose to pay by company check.
 

It is really more than just a website.  It incorporates an association management system which powers the site and provides new functionality.  The most important change the association needs to make is to providing benefits to our members digitally, all year round.  This site gives us the tool to be able to accomplish that.  A few of the benefits of the site include: 

1.      On line access to the membership directory 

2.      Link to an on line, on demand information platform 

3.      Ability to register for the convention and any other events on line 

4.      Social community sites that allow task forces and other group to communicate effectively 

5.      Better information layout to find information more quickly on the site

6.      More options to market your company to other members of the association 

This website and management system is the next critical step to an improved, revitalized NAUMD.
